Tags
A tag is a label on a contact. Tags let you filter your contacts, build lists, and — in some cases — start an automation.
Tags SURGE uses
Section titled “Tags SURGE uses”Some tags are applied automatically and power parts of your system. Please don’t remove these from contacts, rename them, or delete them.
| Tags | What they’re for |
|---|---|
fresh · aging · old |
Colour coding — how long a lead has been waiting |
source-facebook-ad · source-google-ad · source-organic-web · source-referral · source-event · source-manual |
Where a lead came from |
not-qualified · ghosted · future-followup |
Why a lead didn’t go ahead |
You’ll also see tags that match your pipeline stages, such as booked calls and no-answers. Those are managed automatically too.
Adding your own tags
Section titled “Adding your own tags”Go ahead — tags are a great way to organise contacts your way, such as vip, referred-a-friend, or
interested-in-kids-classes.
- Use lowercase and hyphens, and keep names consistent.
vipandVIPare two different tags. - A new tag won’t start anything. Tags you create only trigger an automation if one has been built to listen for them.
- To tag lots of contacts at once, select them in Contacts and use the bulk action to add a tag.
Removing vs deleting
Section titled “Removing vs deleting”These sound similar but are very different:
- Removing a tag from a contact takes it off that one person.
- Deleting a tag in Settings removes it from every contact that has it, and it can’t be undone.
Only delete tags you created yourself and are sure you don’t need.
